Forest School

Our Aims:

For all children to be given the opportunity to investigate and discover the outdoors whilst nurturing meaningful experiences for life-long impact.

We hope that through regular interactions with the outdoors, our children develop a curiosity for the world around them.

What is Forest School?

Forest School introduces a whole new dimension to teaching and learning and is an inspiring process and a specialised approach to learning outdoors. It offers opportunities to develop confidence and self esteem through hands on learning in a natural environment.

At Burton Green we are incredibly fortunate to have our own on-site Forest School learning area that all classes explore and enjoy.

What does a Forest School session look like?

Forest School is a flexible and adaptable approach to learning. Each teacher designs a cycle of learning opportunities that are linked to the seasons and allow children to develop skills and knowledge.

An important element of the Forest School approach is enabling children’s own interests and curiosities to direct the focus of time spent in the outdoor area.

Where possible, links are made with curriculum topics.

Come rain or shine:

Accessing Forest School in all weathers is a vital part of allowing the children to develop resilience and really appreciate a sense of awe and wonder for the changing seasons and the incredible world in which we live.
